Placement Requirements
Your professional development includes 250 hours of placement in a live FE environment:
150+ hours of teaching practice
At least 100 hours in your specialist subject
80+ hours must be delivered face-to-face
Up to 20 hours should be in a different subject or location
Additional Professional Activities (100+ hours) Team meetings, planning, interviews, observations, and CPD

Mentorship & Support
You'll receive structured mentoring from two professionals at your placement organisation:
Subject Specialist Mentor: Offers focused weekly support, expert guidance in your field, and involvement in assessing your teaching practice.
Pastoral Mentor: Provides general professional guidance and creates a supportive environment throughout your journey.
Both mentors will help ensure you’re progressing toward confident, independent teaching.

Observations
You’ll complete a minimum of 10 formal teaching observations, lasting at least 45 minutes each. These are spaced over the course to track your development and must be:
Conducted by your trained subject mentor or an appointed assessor.
Primarily delivered to groups of 10+ learners.

Location & Diversity of Experience
We encourage a broad teaching experience, inclusive of at least two remote (live online) teaching assessments.
You’ll complete a portion of your placement, at least 20 hours, in a second setting or teaching a different subject or age group.
This ensures a well-rounded perspective and the adaptability today’s FE sector demands.
