HSE Offshore Medic Course

The offshore installations and pipeline works (first aid) regulations 1989, states that employers are to provide the necessary equipment, facilities and qualified personnel on site. This enables first aid and/or medical treatment to be administered.
All Offshore establishments requires a suitably trained and qualified medic, to be on hand should an individual become ill or in an emergency situation. The Offshore Medic Course has been specifically designed by our Subject Matter Experts who operationally work and train in the Offshore environment. Course material and practical training will prepare delegates for the role of an Offshore Medic. Our course utilises the blended learning technique (skill stations, demonstrations, questioning, group work, discussions and assessments), which operates on a 60/40 practical focus.
The offshore medic course consists of two modules. The first module is two-weeks and classroom based, where course delegates receive theoretical and practical based training. The second module requires the completion of a 60-hours clinical placement at a local hospital or general practice. Placements can be provided or if preferred the delegate can use an alternative option, subject to prior permission being granted. Personnel will be given a six month period, in which to complete the course, due to possible current work commitments etc. and time available.
Enhanced Disclosure and Baring Check (DBS) - All delegates requiring a placement will be required to have a current and valid DBS completed prior to any placement being authorised. Please note, for personnel who may have any previous convictions, please make this known as soon as possible, so clinical placements can be consulted where necessary. Without a valid DBS, we will not be able to offer any placement to the delegate.
